Diego Tacea Mr. Jeff Sepulveda History 8B March-2011 Capitol building The Capitol building is use for the meeting of the senate, and the house representatives the two compose the legislative branch of the American government, it also includes the offices of congressional leadership, it is also use for national ceremonies such as the presidential inaugurations and the lying of state of eminent persons, and it is also a museum of America art and history. Here the senate and the House of Representatives meet to compose the legislative branch and they also discuss other government issues also millions of people from every part of the world come to see the famous museum of American art and history. It was built because Washington is where almost all the government is control from Washington so it was vital that the capitol building was build there. It honors Washington because it’s very important and it shows that Washington is one of the most important places of the United States. The materials that were use were brick, sandstone, iron, and marble. The construction began in 1793 and it has been “completed” several times. The first building was finish in 1826 but the last arrangement was in 2008, in the middle of the 19 century the extensions and new dome were finish, an addition to the east front was finish in 1958-1962, and in 1993 the restoration of the west front and terraces and the in-filling was complete. The first design was drawn by Dr. William but there have been 11 designers of the capitol. It doesn’t honors anything in specific but I believe it honor Washington, it is honor because Washington is a very important place in the history of the United States, and all the government is control from there. The first thing the calls my attention is the elegant of this place, the entrance is clean and there is many security the marble is beautiful and there is a lot of it, it also calls my attention the painting it looks very nice and I guess there are from a very famous artist. I find particular the security because they are very serious, in Mexico there’s almost no security and the places like this one are very dirty and damage, I also find particular the architectural style of this place I think they could make it more modern because I will like to have more architectural improvements but what they are doing is staying the same. I was surprise to know that the building cost 255 million dollars, it is many money I think that maybe they should give this money to the poor maybe that will be a better investment, but I’m sure they did it for a good reason to benefit all United States citizens. When I was visiting the place I feel jealousy for all the United States citizens because I will like that Mexico be like that and have buildings like that, the only think that Mexico give us is fireworks almost all months, I also feel lucky to have the opportunity to see a place this big with many elegance, and that many people don’t have the chance to see it in all their life.

The capitol Building is the meeting place of the U.S. congress, legislature of the federal government. It is a meeting place for them. The two bodies that compose the legislative U.S. branch. It also includes the offices of congressional leadership, and it´s used for ceremonies of national importance. It’s also a museum of American art and history for people to visit. It honors the legislative branch because it was the first experiment of democracy in the United States of America. And the purpose of building this was for having a monument to have a representation of democracy.
The design came from ancient Rome and Greece; it is an American Neoclassic architecture style. It was proposed by George Washington under his presidency. And it was going to be designed by architect L'Enfant, but then Washington disagreed. The campus is about 21,404 m squared not just one building but the Washington legislature, Washington supreme court of justice, Washington´s governor mansion, and several offices. The construction began on 1801 and was finished on 1826, the first building. But the dome was made between 1855 and1866. It took six different presidents and six different architects for constructing the final building. It is located in Washington D.C., 416 Sid Shyder, avenue, South West. This building was once built, burnt, rebuilt, extended, and restored. It has a total of five levels; it is a building that had many changes. The last change was made in the year of 1962. And It became a symbol of democracy to the nation.
This structure was designed to honor their powerful nation democracy; it was honored because it plays a very important role in the U.S. government. It serves as a location place for the congress. And an important historical event was that on the year 1856, President Brooks from South Carolina, beaten with a cane senator Charles Sumner from Massachusetts, the beating took place in the senate.
My personal experience of researching about this building was that there is so much information, I really didn’t know about the history and monuments of the neighbor country. Much of Washington´s ideas were put into action for making a better country and this statement can be proved by seeing all the buildings at D.C. The wall has all his ideas; every surface is covered marble. I think that style is very nice and elegant, it was the part that grabbed my attention, and it’s amazing. But I also was surprised when I read that there was a cane fight of two people who were supposed to take care of their country which was new in my knowledge. The function of this structure is to serve as a multipurpose room for all the senates; it’s a point where the congress meets, here they have every important meeting. I think this place is well used by the senate, and constructing it was a real good investment, it was a great idea.

George Hadfield was the one in charge of the construction. Then, it was burned by the British and it was reconstructed from 1815 until 1819. Further modifications were replacing the dome with “wedding cake style” cast-iron and the expansion almost duplicating the size in 1850. It is made out of brick clad in sandstone and brick clad in marble. The total estimate of the Capitol’s cost is around $133 million. Its style is American Neoclassicism. This building honors the whole United Sates’ government. It has divided section for different government-related offices. For example, in the north wing, the Senate meetings are held. The south wing is for the House of Representatives and those two bodies represent the American branch of Legislature. Many important historical events happen in the Capitol Building because of its importance in that the Legislative branch has in the government. The first time I looked at the United States’ Capitol building I was greatly surprised. I was mainly amazed by the neatness of the building, it looks impeccably white and it is very artistic. Every building that is American Neoclassicism style is great. The columns of the building make it look beautiful and besides it looks very symmetric. Another thing that is very amazing for me is that so many years ago it was not that easy to make buildings because the technology was really low and there were no construction trucks like nowadays. Since I did not visit the site, I am still very eager to visit the United States’ Capitol Building because it seems very amusing . The dome in particular calls my attention because it is enormous and it seems to have a figure on the top. After investigating, I found out that the figure on the top of the dome is in fact a statue called the “Statue of Freedom”. What also surprises me is how almost every building that is in Washington D.C., it has great mantainance in the yard, the grass is green, the bushes look great and the flowers are colorfull and creatively decorated. Every single thing is symmetrical and there is nothing that I like more in drawings or buildings than symmetry. Every column or window the Capitol has, there is an equal one on the other side. Besides , the Capitol Building is an amazingly big building.

Stephen Hallet and William Thornton’s designs were both French architectural designs based and inspired by the east front of the Louvre, as well as the Paris Pantheon. The plans and designs of the Capitol were changed and modified several times. The government was paying for everything even though it was going to be expensive. The Capitol Building was already in use when the British burned it down in 1814. The

reconstruction of this historical building began in 1815 and was completed by 1819. In 1826, the center rotunda area and the first dome were constructed. The dome and center rotunda weren't in the original design or building. They expanded the construction in 1850 and also in 1958. The Capitol has two “wings”, the North and South wings. The Senate and House of Representatives gather in one of these wings. The North wing belongs to the Senate and the South wing to the House of Representatives. A big statue is placed at the top of the dome, which is called the “statue of freedom.” Four flags are located in three different points of the Capitol Building. Two of the United States flags are placed below the dome and have been there since World War I. The other two are each one of the wings (North and South wings) and are only held up when the chamber below is in session.
The Capitol Building is a symbol of the United States that symbolizes the government leaders and the work they did and still do for the country. Since congress men make and discuss the laws in this building, it has a great story behind it because all the laws and rules from years ago were made here. Also, very important people have been in this building.
The Capitol Building was one of my favorite sites while visiting Washington D.C. I found very interesting the architectural style it is made of and all the great art paintings on the inside, specially the one inside the dome. I was really impressed of its design and style. The two flags that are held up since World War I is another interesting thing about the Capitol because the flags don’t have the 50 stars they have today, they only have the stars from the states that were, back then, part of the United States. When I visited this place I wanted to know everything about it because I think it is a very important place in the United States. I think that this place should be a place of honor for the ones that worked and work there because the United States is what it is today, in terms of laws, rules and security, because of them. And even though sometimes they might do something wrong, they have always done it for the good of the country and this is why I think it should be honored. I think The Capitol Building is one of the most important buildings in the United States, not only because of the history behind it but because of what happens every day in it.
